1) NOT FLOSSING DAILY.

You may get gum disease within 24 hours if you are not cleaning your teeth properly. The salivary glands, which help neutralize bacteria, slow down while you sleep. The ideal is to use dental floss before bedtime.

2) EXCESSIVE STRENGTH DURING USE.

When you are using dental floss with great force you threaten to detach the gum tissue from the teeth. What you should do is slide gently between your teeth.

3) TECHNICAL MISTAKE.

If you just put the floss between your teeth and only move it up and down you are unable to detach bacteria that are “hidden” at the gum line, which are capable of causing diseases. So wrap your tooth with dental floss to form the English letter C before starting the movement.

4) TOOTHPICKS ETC.

If you clean the areas between your teeth with your nails, toothpicks, with staples or antyhing else sharp, you are risking to injure and destroy your gums.

5) BELIEVING THAT BRUSHING IS ENOUGH.

The majority of gum diseases start from interproximal areas. The most effective way to prevent such diseases is flossing.

Studies have linked gum disease with increased risk for heart disease. Some believe that this occurs due to oral infections, because levels of inflammatory substances in the blood are increased able to form clots to the flow of blood to the heart. Others believe that the bacteria from an oral infection can enter the bloodstream and cause severe problems to the cardiovascular system.

So one way to prevent gum disease is ………using dental floss.

Use it correctly.
Use it before bedtime.
Use it everyday
