This week we interviewed the special orthodontist Alexander Moullas. Down below you can find questions and answers that I am sure will be very interesting for you, especially if you think it’s time to straighten your teeth without braces!

Being the first one to bring the Invisalign® system to Greece in 2002, can you describe the operation of this method of aligning the teeth that is considered pioneering?

The Invisalign® system includes a range of splints made of a durable thermoplastic medical material, hypoallergenic and completely transparent. Each of the Invisalign® splints achieves a very small tooth movement. Wearing a different one for about 15 days, we can get a harmonious smile as a result, easily, painlessly and above all, without setting a “goal”. Invisalign® splints are almost invisible.

Is the Invisalign® method as effective as traditional orthodontic treatment methods?

Given that the patient follows the advice of the orthodontist, and the orthodontist has been trained and certified, the Invisalign® method is just as effective as the traditional methods of orthodontic treatment.

What are the advantages of Invisalign®?

The Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen® methods offer a number of advantages compared to traditional braces. Because the splints are detachable, that is, they can come out whenever necessary, brushing, dental floss and more generally maintaining proper oral hygiene are very easy to do. Also, when the patient wears braces, there are certain foods that should not be eaten. With Invisalign® and Invisalign Teen®, there is no limitation. The patient can also engage in any sport he wants without fear of injuries or playing any musical instrument he likes without the braces being an obstacle.

Is the Invisalign® method only for adults?

Apart from adults, there is also the Invisalign® Teen method that can be used both in adolescents who have completed the eruption of permanent teeth and in those who have not completed this procedure. Under certain conditions, treatment with Invisalign® Teen can begin at the age of 10.

The effectiveness of the Invisalign® method also depends on the accuracy of impressions. What is the method you use for this purpose?

We are the first to bring to Greece and we use the iTero® system, a precise three-dimensional imaging technology, which reflects the smallest detail of the patient’s mouth since September 2016. This method involves the use of a scanner that digitally displays the structure of the denture and gums thanks to the latest optical technology. This scanner is a small handheld device that offers great flexibility to the orthodontist as its operation can be started or stopped as many times as needed.

What are the main advantages of iTero® versus the traditional ones?

First of all, iTero® offers a very comfortable experience. Without the odd sensation and taste of the gel, as long as the orthodontist gets the impression, the patient can breathe and swallow normally. It is also more accurate and effective than any other. Because of the potential errors in getting impressions, designing Invisalign® devices is easier and safer. Finally, appointments to the orthodontist become shorter, while the patient can see directly in a three-dimensional representation his denture’s impression on the orthodontist’s computer.
