Gingivitis- Causes and Prevention

Gingivitis is a pathological condition of the gums which is characterized by inflammation and bleeding.

Gingivitis is a pathological condition of the gums which is characterized by inflammation and bleeding. It is caused by the action of the organism against toxins produced by bacteria residing in the oral cavity.  It results in bad breath and gum recession.

Gingivitis is a condition in which the gums are swollen, and red and are usually bleeding, either automatically or during brushing.

CAUSES

Two are the main diseases of our teeth and gums: dental decay and gingivitis.  In both cases, the main cause is dental plaque. It is a set of deposits that begin to gather on the surfaces of the teeth, even minutes after brushing.

The damage happens due to microbial attack when beneath the surface of this plaque pathogenic microorganisms are allowed to act undisturbed, but the presence of plaque alone is also enough to cause problems.

The reason that causes gingivitis as we said is plaque, when it isn’t removed from the teeth it becomes calculus. It occurs around the neck of the teeth, above or below the gums and it allows the action of oral pathogens.

As a result, the support of the tooth slowly weakens, with gum recession the roots of the teeth are uncovered and exposed and the jaw bone that supports the teeth is slowly dissolved.

PREVENTION

The key to preventing gum disease is proper oral hygiene. Brushing, flossing, and using mouthwash.

IMPACT

The tooth begins to acquire greater mobility than normal and finally, we lose it (extraction) . With the continuous loss of teeth in the mouth, gaps are created that will be very difficult to restore to the dentist.
If the situation is left to its fate it will have unpleasant consequences. Such as disturbances of proper occlusion, speech, stomach discomfort from improper chewing of food, cosmetic problems, and effects on the psychology of the patient.

Of course, all this could have been avoided if we all had learned from a young age to brush properly and on a regular, daily basis.
