Many of you are in need of dental sealants according to your dentist. Others are interested in learning all about them because their children are in need. So, with no further ado, I present you the answers to two of your most common questions about this preventive treatment.
What is the procedure for fissure sealant placement?
The procedure of placing fissure sealants is very simple and completely painless, just one dental appointment is enough.
Firstly your dentist will clean the occlusal surface of your tooth, no drilling and no anesthesia is needed.
Then the sealant material will be placed (composite resin) on the enamel of the tooth so that it will cover all the pits and fissures on the occlusal surface.
Lastly, the material will stick directly on your tooth and harden by means of polymerization.
How long do they last?
Fissure sealants can last several years. They can provide 100% protection on the covered surface of the teeth for as long as they remain intact. During regular visits to your dentist every six months, the dentist checks whether any part has been detached and if he detects signs of deterioration he will repeat the treatment.
