Don’t think that just the simple placement of dental floss between your teeth is enough. Proper technique is what makes the difference.

Before you begin make sure to thoroughly wash your hands, as they will come in contact with your mouth.

PREPARATION

Cut a piece of it about 45-50 cm. It sounds a lot but you need enough to make sure that on each tooth you will use a clean part of it. Wrap the major part of the floss (from both ends) around two fingers that are most convenient for you. Leave about 12 cm of it in the middle of your fingers. Then grasp the two sides with your thumb and index finger, leaving between 2 cm, with which you will work.

USE

Gently place it between your teeth. Wrap the floss around your tooth in such a way as to form the English letter “C” .Slide below the gumline. Clean the tooth surfaces by movements from the bottom to the top. When the plaque is removed proceed to the next tooth.

NOTE

If just started flossing and your gums are infected, they are most likely to bleed. Don’t panic, just carry on taking care of your oral hygiene. And if after a week the bleeding does not subside, contact your dentist.
